Apple TV Teardown Reveals 8GB Flash Storage, 256MB RAM, Leftover iPad Parts

"Of course the new Apple TV gets a teardown, silly," is what we would tell you should you have the audacity to question its inevitability. But alas, we're too busy analyzing every photo of iFixit's gallery to even dignify your raised eyebrow with an unprovoked response. The site gives it 8 out of 10 in its metric of repairability, opining it might be "the most eco-friendly set-top box of all time." With that said, here are the big takeaways we're seeing so far: 8GB of storage provided care of a Samsung K9LCG08U1M NAND Flash chip, and the same one found in the iPad. Speaking of which, there's also the exact same markings on its Apple A4 processor as the iPad and new iPod touch, K4X2G643GE (not the same as the iPhone 4, as it turns out), the exact same Broadcom BCM4329XKUBG 802.11n WiFi / Bluetooth / FM chip as the iPad, and at 256MB, the same amount of RAM. Also interesting and of note are the solder pads near the side of the logic board, which look to be a perfect fit for an Apple dock connector. At any rate, with all that's under the hood, we expect the jailbreak community to have an absolute field day.

Sony to Introduce the World’s First Internet Television on October 12th

Sony has announced that they will be introducing their first Internet Television on October 12th, and they has sent out some invitations to selected people. The event will start at 5:30 PM somewhere in New York. As you know that Google announced the Google TV during the Google I/O and Sony is one of their partners as manufacturer. We hope on that day both Sony and Google will officially unveil the Google TV.

While we near the end of September, it doesn’t look like GTV is going to get “officially launched” this month, contrary to what Intel’s CEO said not too long ago. So it looks like Eric Schmidt’s “Fall” time frame was pretty accurate. Sony has just sent out invitations to their Google TV unveiling, toted as the world’s first Internet TV.
Google TV is really an innovation, and it’s a device that we may think about. We say improvements in TV, but this Google TV will change everything. As Google said that they are inventing the TV again, but in their own way.

There’s no secret that this is the official unveiling of Google TV, on a live unit, that we’ve all been waiting for. It will be Sony that we get to see the first implementation of Google’s Web-based video service, which is meant to integrate Google search and other Web-based elements right into your television. As long as Sony doesn’t showcase any of the Logite Revue commercials, everything should be fine.

Summer 1995 Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin meet at Stanford, when the 23-year-old Brin was assigned to show 24-year-old Page around the campus. They do not particularly hit it off, but Page joins the university as a computer science graduate student.

January 1996 Page and Brin, now both computer science graduate students, begin collaborating on a search engine called BackRub which operates on Stanford servers for more than a year, eventually taking up too much bandwidth. September 1997 Google.com is registered as a domain after the pair decide BackRub needs to be rebranded. The new name is a play on the word “googol,” a mathematical term for the number represented by the numeral 1 followed by 100 zeros. It is an early hint at their mission to organise a seemingly infinite amount of information on the web.

Binatone Launches Home Surf Touch Android 1.6 Tablet

Binatone has launched an affordable Android tablet named Home Surf Touch Tablet. This running with Android 1.6 and featuring a resistive touchscreen, the 8-inch tablet’s features will not inspire awe, but its price will surely enhance its appeal, at Rs. 8,995. Binatone is a UK based company and now entered the Indian market with a product mean for Indian market.
Home Surf Touch Tablet is cheaper than most available smartphones but it can’t make calls. However, as a handheld media consumption and web-browsing device, it will probably serve relatively well, if one takes into account it doesn’t support Flash, and, has not revealed its WiFi specifications, which we assume to be 802.11b/g. The company refers to the device as an MID, or mobile internet device.
Calling it “almost as slim as an iPad”, the company is “committed to breaking the barriers of technology reaching the masses” with the device, and bring the high-end to everyone at “affordable prices”.

Other  specifications of the device include 2GB onboard storage (once again we are forced to assume it will feature MicroSD or SD expandability), 128MB RAM, and as the brains behind the device, an ARM 11 667MHz processor. As for battery life, the company said the Home Surf Touch Tablet can “retain its charge for several hours in video, web browsing, and many other applications for daily use.”

Mr. Murthi, EVP Binatone India said, “Binatone plans to invest Rs 50 crores in the next 12 months in technology, product development and marketing. Our products are specifically “Indianised” with special features like “Audio boost”, “Power saver” and “Binatone Zone”, which all have been carefully market researched and implemented to address the specific Indian needs. Binatone is also bringing in low cost 3G handsets by the end of the year to cater to the deployment of newer technologies in India.”

Android-based AlessiTab Home Tablet Will Cost More, November Release Expected

Eager to get your hands on that Stefana Giovannoni-designed AlessiTab home tablet first announced back in April? Then it looks like you'll have to wait a bit longer, and shell out a bit more cash than first expected. According to Design Boom, the device is now set to roll out in Italy sometime in November (instead of this month), and it will run €399, or about $535 (a full hundred euros than previously expected). Otherwise, the Android 2.1-based tablet looks to be the same as we've seen before, including a 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen, a DVB-T digital TV tuner, built-in WiFi, and a webcam for video calls. Notably absent, however, is access to the Android Market, but Alessi promises it'll provide a selection of its own apps specifically designed for the home environment.

BlackBerry Tablet BlackPad, iPad Rival will Launch on Sep 27

According to recent news BlackBerry maker Research in Motion (RIM) is expected to unveil its BlackPad tablet computer to rival Apple's iPad Monday, 27 Sep. The Wall Street Journal also confirmed that the BlackPad is being launched. The tablet will feature a seven-inch touch screen and one or two built-in cameras and the announcement is likely to be made at its developer's conference in San Francisco.

The BlackPad features like Bluetooth and broadband connections but will only be able to connect to cellular networks through a BlackBerry smartphone.  As reported earlier, the BlackPad will not operate on the newly launched BlackBerry 6 operating system launched in August, but on a new platform built by QNX Software Systems. The tablet won't be sold with a cellular service, leaving unclear which carriers or retailers will sell the device, the journal reported, quoting people familiar with RIM's plans.
The Canadian company BlackBerry maker had acquired Ottawa-based QNX Software Systems for 0 million in April to have exclusive access to its software technology for its tablet. QNX Software Systems is a unique company as its technology powers the six-wheeled unmanned Crusher combat vehicle of the US Army as well as the music, media and navigation systems in cars from BMW and Porsche.

By buying QNX Software Systems, RIM has also brought on board independent software developers who develop applications exclusively for QNX. Since RIM is way behind Apple in offering applications on its devices, QNX's technology is a major boost for the Canadian wireless giant. All future devices from RIM will operate on the QNX operating system, rather than its current operating systems, including BlackBerry 6, which have been termed slow. The BlackPad tablet is being manufactured by Quanta Computer Inc. of Taiwan, and will run on chips from California's Marvell Technology Group Inc., the journal reported, quoting people familar with the the tablet's manufacturing.

Though theWaterloo-based Canadian company has posted a record growth in the second quarter and reported high sales of the latest BlackBerry Torch 9800, Apple's iPhone is making big inroads into its corporate and business client base. Blackberry’s share of global smartphone sales fell by one per cent to 18 per cent year on year, in the second quarter of 2010, according to Gartner. Along with tough competition with Google Android devices, Microsoft also recently confirmed it is working with partners to produce rivals to the iPad.

Charge Your Mobile Phone Wirelessly with New Japanese Technology

Japanese scientists have developed a system that would allow you recharge your mobile phones and laptops wirelessly. Developed by Japanese technology firm Fujitsu, the system is capable of simultaneously charging multiple portable electronic devices such as mobile phones, digital cameras and laptop computers without the need for cable connections.

The company unveiled a prototype system at an Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers conference at Osaka Prefecture University and it claimed that it was first of its kind in the world.  It works on the transmission of electricity using magnetic fields between the charger and the electronic device. The technology allows wireless charging at distances of up to several metres. Scientists at Fujitsu Laboratories plan to commercially sell products having wireless charging system by 2012.

According to company, "This technology paves the way to integrating compact wireless charging functions into mobile phones and enabling multiple portable devices to be charged simultaneously without any restrictions on their position with respect to the charger. We are also looking at applying the results of this work to fields other than portable electronics, including power transmission between circuit boards or computer chips and providing mobile charging systems for electric cars."

Nokia Announces E7, C7 and C6-01 Symbian Smartphones

Nokia just announced three new Symbian phones Nokia E7, C7 and C6 in London, UK - At Nokia World. They are joining Nokia N8 to the Symbian^3 party with 720p video recording of their own along with generous use of steel and aluminum. Nokia E7, it's got a tilting 4" AMOLED touchscreen with nHD resolution and a four row slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It's got high-end connectivity - 10.2Mbps HSDPA, 2Mbps HSUPA, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, A-GPS and
Cell-ID positioning along with USB On-The-Go. The Nokia E7 highlights list continue with an 8MP camera with dual-LED flash, 720p video capture, and 16GB of built-in storage. There's HDMI port with Dolby Digital Plus surround sound support. The Nokia E7 weighs a hefty 176 grams - but that's because it's made of anodized aluminum. The Nokia E7 display uses the new ClearBlack technology, which promises darker blacks, better sunlight legibility and lower power usage. The E7 is expected to cost around 495 euro (637 USD) before taxes and subsidies.

Another one is Nokia C7 stainless steel beauty is just 10.5 mm thin. It too has an 8MP camera with dual-LED flash and 720p video, and the same excellent connectivity features as the E7, except the HDMI - it relies on the more traditional composite video-out instead. The Nokia C7 has a 3.5" AMOLED screen with nHD resolution and 8GB of built-in memory. But unlike the E7, the C7 memory is expandable through the microSD card slot. The Nokia C7 is expected to cost 335 euro (430 US dollars).

The last one Nokia C6-01 is shorter than the C7 - 103.8mm vs. 117.3 mm. The screen size has been reduced - 3.2" AMOLED touchscreen with nHD resolution using the same ClearBlack technology as the E7. The Nokia C6-01 boasts the same camera and connectivity features as the C7 (sans TV-out) and its 8GB built-in memory is extended by a 2GB microSD card in the box. It too has a stainless steel body though it's quite a bit thicker than the C7 - 13.9 mm. The Nokia C6-01 is the cheapest of the bunch, it is expected to cost 260 euro (334 USD). The trio comes with free voice-guided GPS navigation (of course) and are expected to start shipping some time in Q4. Nokia won't be announcing MeeGo devices during this event.

As a smartphone family, the Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia C7, Nokia C6 share several similarities. All are built on the new version of Symbian, the world's most popular smartphone platform. It strikes a balance of innovation and intuition offering a variety of improvements and features such as support for multiple homescreens, visual multitasking, gesture-based interactions and a noticeable reduction in prompts -- all while presenting a familiarity that means millions of people can pick up one of Nokia's new smartphones and instantly know how to use it. People will also discover free Ovi Maps, access to Ovi Store, messaging, social networking and other experiences that come standard across all of these smartphones.

The Nokia E7, Nokia C7 and Nokia C6 are all expected to begin shipping before the end of the year.

Everything 1.2.1 Instant Search Engine for Desktop

Everything is a search engine for your desktop files with a small installation file at 334 KB, the search engine is a remarkable tool for data/media management, allowing you to search for any file or folder on your computer by name, almost instantaneously. Everything has a clean and simple user interface, Quick file indexing, Quick searching, Minimal resource usage, Share files with others easily and Real-time updating.

Everything search engine an administrative tool that locates files and folders by filename instantly for Windows. Unlike Windows search "Everything" initially displays every file and folder on your computer, hence the name Everything. Though we know that Windows actually does display everything, including hidden folders and system files if the right option is checked, it does so slowly, searching from point A to point B until it finds the file indicated, within the search parameters.
The advantage of the Everything search engine is that it takes a few seconds to index your files and folders (using Window’s NTFS databases) and is ready from the moment the system starts up. The software is constantly updating the database, but, if you want to save some memory resources, which come to about 35MB of your physical memory, you can switch off auto-update when the program is inactive. Everything" only uses file and folder names and generally takes a few seconds to build its database. A fresh install of Windows XP SP2 (about 20,000 files) will take about 1 second to index. 1,000,000 files will take about 1 minute. Everything will not search within files, like Windows does with certain types of text files.

Everything is that it runs even on Windows 2000, apart from Windows XP, 2003, Vista and Windows 7. It will be able to locate file and folders on all local and removable NTFS volumes, but not mapped network drives. You can also share a list of files and folders across computers, by creating an HTTP, ETP, or FTP server. You can set a password for this as well, to ensure no one else using Everything can log on to your machine.
Depending on your firewall settings, you will also be able to copy files from the machine you are viewing. You can also export a list of files onto your desktop in text form. You can use regular expressions (regex), wildcards, or boolean operators to greatly enhance your search results. Apart from these advanced options, users can also search by matching case, matching whole words, or matching paths.

New Motorola Cell Phones Having Dual Sim EX115 And Ex128

New dual SIM phones from Motorola, the EX115 and EX128 just will available this October. Both handsets are unannounced, and they’re the first dual SIM Motorola devices to be available in Europe. The release dates and prices of both dual SIM feature phones are available. Those are expected to start shipping next month and should cost around 100 euro. The Motorola EX128 is a touchscreen handset that will cost about €120 ($150). The Motorola EX115 has a regular display and a full QWERTY keyboard, and should cost only about €95 ($120).

The Motorola EX115 will come with a full QWERTY keyboard, while the Motorola EX128 will pack a touch sensitive display (its size and resolution are still a mystery) and both will be able to accommodate two SIM cards at the same time.

Strangely, Motorola EX128 features some sort of a touchscreen UI - so far Motorola hasn't presented any feature phone operated by touch so the EX128 novelty factor may extend beyond its Dual SIM capabilities.
The two upcoming devices have been spotted on the website of Germanos Romania, a European cellphone retailer, and according to it, they should become available on 18 October. The EX115 is expected to cost less than 95 euro, while the EX128 will be priced at less than 120 euro.

Already Nokia has announced the dual SIM phones and Samsung already a player in this market with launched more than 10 models. Now Motorola entering the dual SIM phone market, will have some serious competition. Now we hope to see a war in dual SIM phone market.

Google Instant : Your Mobiles Will Have It Soon

Google Instant will soon available for Mobile phone users and they should soon be able to enjoy this new feature when accessing Google search on their devices. Google Instant has been recently released for desktop PCs, and which was already tested for mobile devices, it seems. We can hope that the new feature will first available for handsets running under Google's Android operating system in the beginning, as the company usually does so, but more devices might also get it soon after.

According to Mr. Marissa Mayer, VP Search Products & User Experience, “Google Instant is search-before-you-type. Instant takes what you have typed already, predicts the most likely completion and streams results in real-time for those predictions—yielding a smarter and faster search that is interactive, predictive and powerful”.

Google Instant perform searches even before one finishes typing the query, which means that the results will come much faster than before. Currently released for Chrome, Firefox, Safari and IE 8, the solution is being tested for use on mobile phones too, at least this is what a recent post on Engadget suggests.

The solution is meant to offer users three Instant results under the search box. As the photo attached to this article shows, users would receive one search result between Android's notifications bar and the native keyboard auto-complete bar, without scrolling. It seems that Google plans on making the solution available in the near future on any AJAX-capable mobile browser, and that Android users would get it pretty soon, the same applying to Apple's iphone.

Firefox 4 Beta Version 5: New Browser With Improved Security

Firefox has released the latest Firefox 4 beta 5 with it a couple of new features like hardware acceleration for Windows users and a new audio API. Firefox 4 Beta 5 now uses Direct2D by default to speed up page rendering. Firefox 4 Beta 5 also comes with a new security feature which enables sites to force HTTPS connections.
According to Mr. Mike Beltzner, Mozilla's director of Firefox, "The latest update to Firefox 4 Beta brings super fast graphics and incredible new audio capabilities to the Web. Firefox 4 Beta now leverages hardware acceleration to improve graphics performance for Windows users and also allows, for the first time, the visualization of audio data within the browser," he explained.

Hardware acceleration is the main feature for Windows users. Firefox 4 Beta 5 now uses Direct2D by default to speed up page rendering. You will need a graphics card supporting DirectX 10, but the difference it makes, especially for visually intensive web pages, is significant. Mozilla doesn't have an alternative to Direct2D on other platforms, since it's a Microsoft technology, so Linux and Mac users are out of luck for now. The team has said that it is looking at ways of bringing hardware acceleration to all users at some point.

Firefox 4 Beta 5 also has a new audio API. The API gives developers the ability to read and write raw audio data within the browser. It's a pretty powerful API and comes in very handy in a few specialized use cases. However, it is unlikely to make a difference for most users.
Firefox 4 Beta 5 will also support for HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS). This new security protocol enables webmasters to request that Firefox always uses HTTPS connections for that site. This way, in the case of a man in the middle attack, which would try to redirect you to a non-encrypted version of that site, Firefox will automatically replace any HTTP URL with HTTPS ones.

480Mbps Speed with Samsung New Wireless USB Chips

Samsung Electronics introduced its latest wireless universal serial bus (USB) solution, developed using Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology. This solution capable of transmission speeds up to 480Mbps with an actual throughput rate of 200Mbps. The result is reportedly ten times more power efficient than 802.11g Wi-Fi. Offered in a two-chip set, Samsung's newest S3C2680/ S5M8311 WUSB solution enables high definition content to be wirelessly transmitted from a mobile host device to a tethered device for viewing.
Initial applications are high-resolution cameras, camcorders, TVs and PCs with prospects for adoption in other applications including tablet PCs, printers, beam projectors, portable HDDs, Blu-ray players, and mobile handsets. Samsung Electronics  is a worldwide leader in advanced semiconductor technology solutions. The product is made up of two chips, S3C2680, a baseband processor with an ARM 9 core, built-in NAND flash controller, SD I/O, and two USB 2.0 PHYs; and S5M8311a, a separate RF transciever.

The chips can be deployed in SD cards, USB dongles, or embedded directly into consumer electronics. Samsung says the solution is especially suited for digital cameras and HD camcorders for high throughput local content sharing. Samsung's S3C2680/S5M8311 WUSB chipset is now sampling to select customers. Mass production of the chips is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2010.
According to Mr. Yiwan Wong, vice president, System LSI marketing, Samsung Electronics, "The ability to handle wireless high-speed data transmission while consuming less power is a key requirement for many consumer electronic devices. Due to power/performance issues, previous generations of [Wireless USB] products were unable to meet the consumers' expectations. Samsung's new WUSB chipset delivers up to 480Mbps (Megabit per second) data transmission rate, at an average power consumption of less than 300mW. This level of power efficiency greatly increases the attractiveness of WUSB connectivity in consumer electronic and mobile applications."
