Skype Now Available For Android OS 2.1 or Higher

Skype now available for Google's Android smartphones. Skype works on  handset with Android OS version 2.1 or higher. With it you can make free Skype-to-Skype calls over WiFi or mobile data connection (GPRS, EDGE, 3G)* to other Skype users anywhere in the world using Skype’s SILK codec for CD-like audio quality. Also can make low rate Skype calls to landline or mobile phones.


Skype for Android supports:
Instant messaging (IM)
Group IM
Skype-to-Skype calling
Calling phones and mobiles
Receiving Skype calls and calls to Online Numbers
Participating in conference calls
Synchronizing with Android phone book
Importing from native phonebook
Call forwarding
Showing favorite contacts
Contact list filtering via groups

The following features are not currently supported:
Skype video calling
Voicemail
Skype SMS
File transfer


Requirements:
Android 2.1 operating system and above.
*Please note that data usage costs apply for using Skype over 3G mobile networks (EDGE, EV-DO and UMTS), so we recommend an unlimited data plan or WiFi connection.

According to Skype, "Skype for Android works on compatible handsets running Android OS v2.1 and above and has been tested successfully by Skype on HTC Desire, HTC Legend, Google Nexus One, Motorola Milestone XT720, and Motorola Milestone. It may work on other Android phones, but we can’t guarantee full functionality or compatibility. We’re aware of some problems with the Samsung Galaxy S, and we’re looking to address these in the future."
